Construction is the most financially complex industry there is at any size. Percentage of completion, retainage, WIP, bonding, pay-when-paid, change orders. A finance leader who has not lived it will drown in week one.
So we do not hire generalists. Every Fractional CFO on our team has actually sat in the CFO seat of an 8- or 9-figure contractor. Not a CPA who lists construction as a vertical. Not a consultant who added "construction expertise" to a website. People who have run the financial machine inside a construction company at scale and know where the bodies are buried, because they buried a few themselves.

Michael leads a team of high-performing CFOs with deep construction experience. Our mission is simple - to help construction companies consistently hit 10%+ net profit. Before starting Civil CFO, Michael spent 11 years supervising nuclear power plants in the US Navy and leading operations at a $90M plant.
Mistie King
COO
Mistie is the co-owner and COO at Civil CFO. She leads onboarding and client delivery. She brings two decades of operations, training, and team-development leadership, most recently as a director at one of the country's largest real estate development firms.

Operations
Gretchen makes sure the Civil CFO client experience is exceptional from day one. She keeps every engagement on schedule and holds the work to a high standard, so each call, report, and onboarding step lands on time and is done with excellence.

Thanh Hoang brings more than a decade of HR and talent acquisition leadership to Civil CFO, most recently as Director of HR and Talent Acquisition for a Dallas homebuilder, with earlier roles at high-growth companies including Peloton.

A USMC veteran, Adam spent 12 years as CFO of a commercial GC, helping them scale from $11M to $80M and exit through an ESOP. Before construction, he spent 12 years in commercial lending and underwriting for the construction industry.
